Cabinet |
You can easily find MAME plans on Internet to build a mame cabinet, build the structure is an important part of the project. You must choose a design that you like and the cabinet must be ergonomic. In fact, the more difficult of this step is the finishing. My own plans will coming soon... |
The monitor | The solution for the best picture is an arcade monitor. The minimum size that you must have is 25" if you want to play vertical and horizontal games without to flip the screen. You can use a TV-out of your videocard with a TV screen but the picture is not accurate as an arcade monitor. |
Video card | If you use a TV screen or a PC monitor a standard videocard is ok but if you want an arcade monitor, you must use a specific videocard because the video signal must be 15Khz. An Arcade VGA card is the best way for displaying all size of screen without trouble, also the BIOS of your computer! |
Bezel | The "Bezel" is for the front of the monitor, it's important if you want to have a true experience arcade design. |
8 ways |
2 joysticks + 21 buttons + the board to connect at a USB port of your computer. I've choose the X-Arcade because you can use it with a PC, an XBOX, a Nintendo etc. you just change the adaptator. But another really good possibility is proposed by Ultimarc. |
4 ways joystick |
It's ideal for playing games as Pacman. The J-Stick from Ultimarc is a really good choice. You can wired it with the player #1 of the X-arcade joystick. Add two buttons wired with the button 1 and 2 of the X-Arcade player #1 buttons. |
Spinner | With spinner you can move a cursor on an horizontal line, it's for playing games as Arkanoïd. You can connect it on the PS2 port or with an USB port. I've won mine in a contest @ SlikStik and it's the best. |
Trackball | A trackball can move a cursor in all the directions, it's really the fun for playing at games as World Class Bowling or Millipede. You connect it on the PS2 port and it comes with three buttons. You can use it with Windows too for replace the mouse. |
Blue ball | A translucid blue ball is very nice when you put a light behind! Nice effect guaranted... |
Light for the trackball |
4 blue leds to connect at the power supply of your computer. The difference VS a regular light is that leds are cold and you can buy colored leds... |
Mounting plate for trackball |
The mounting plate is necessary for fixing the trackball on the control panel. Also, it's a nice surface for playing without screws. |
Speakers | I use a system with a subwoofer and a volume control. I've bought it at the best price and I've change the speakers by regular arcade speakers from Happ Controls. Fixe the speakers inside the cabinet, it's much easy for fixing the grills after. |
Marquee | The marquee is a rectangular banner for decorate the top of the arcade cabinet. I used two blue lights behind for increase the blue effect of the marquee. The choice of marquees is important for the feeling design... |
Retainer |
You will need to parts of retainer for marquee, one for the top and one for the bottom. Just put the marquee between two Plexiglass rectangle and fixed it with the retainers. |
Cathode |
For a nice effect, fixe blue lights under the cabinet. You must have a space of 1" with the floor. You connect it on the power supply of the computer. I need six lights, two for the front and two by side, left and right. I've painted in white under the cabinet and behind the marquee for a best reflection of the lights. |
Isolation Transformer |
If not include with the monitor board. For powered and PROTECT the arcade monitor. YOU DO NOT CONNECT DIRECTLY to the power, you must use an Isolation Transformer! |
Speaker Grills |
You can use old grills from speakers of a car or buy new grills, it's not the most important cost of the mame project... |
T-molding | The T-molding is for a nice finish on the face of the MameCab. The width of the T-molding for my MAME project is 5/8". |
Overlay | To have a great place for playing without screws, for a very nice finishing. The overlay will help you too for cleaning the control panel. The basic black model do the job but you can find a lof of overlays or you can made it according to your taste. |
Smart Strip |
It's an intelligent power bar. Ten outlets work together, autoswitching your devices on/off automatically, it's a surge protection too. With that, my monitor start with my speakers etc. when I turn on my computer, you must have! |
On/Off and Reset PC |
Power up your PC at a distance with the Ignition 1 PC Power Switch Cable with Wired Remote. This sleek gadget enables you to turn on/off your PC at a touch of a button from up to 6 feet away. It's equipped with a power button, reset button, LEDs, 80-inch cord, and attaches easily to your motherboard front panel power pins... |
Glass | A glass of 3-4mm to protect the arcade monitor. To retain it at the bottom, you can use a piece of the retainer marquee. |
